10 Strategies for Tapping Into Your Magic

This past Monday, we celebrated Martin Luther King Day hosting our first ever Lunch Social (we usually have brunch on weekends). It was also Center City Restaurant Week, so we were able to meet at Del Frisco's and enjoy a 3 course lunch for just $20.

Our topic of the day was "Tapping Into Your Magic" and I just wanted to share some helpful tips that were discussed at the table and here they are:

1. Stop worrying about things that don’t matter or that you have no control over the outcome.

2. Connect with what you already have inside of you. Whatever dream you have, know you came fully equipped to make it a reality. If you feel you lack the skills, you have the ability to acquire whatever it is you need.

3. Live an inspired and authentic life by being who you truly are and doing things that make you feel good.

4. Trusting in your dreams will help you let go of self-doubt. For every negative thought, think of two positive ones to shut that down.

5. Don’t Panic – Evaluate your current progress not where you want to be in five years. You don’t want to overwhelm yourself with how much further you need to go.

6. Failure is not the end - Think like a 1 year old – when you couldn’t walk, you fell, got back up, and tried again and again until you mastered it.

7. Focus on what goes right – Things will always not go according plan, but think of all the times things have worked out for you.

8. Don’t listen to other people’s negative opinions concerning your goals, unless that opinion is advice to improve your chances of a successful outcome.

9. Work for your dreams and be persistent.

10. Nothing is new under the sun. Read about those that came before you, and charter your own ship.

Bonus Tip: Just go for it and see what happens. You won’t know the outcome unless you try. Take a big goal and break it into segments and conquer each one, one at a time.

{Recap} The Branding Brunch w/ Karima Renee

This past Sunday, October 11th, we hosted the Branding Brunch with Image Consultant and Stylist, Karima Renee at Ela (627 S. Broad Street, Philadelphia). Karima is a master brander having began her career in fashion ten years ago working under the likes of June Ambrose. She became an entrepreneur five years ago and spoke about how her own brand has changed during those years.
Karima offered attendees a step by step overview of what a brand is and to develop, nurture, and grow one.

One of the key takeaways was to determine who your audience is and to create a brand that will cater to them. Everyone was able to walk away with a 12 month business/action plan to get them on the right track to create and grow their brands.

Thanks to all the ladies that attended. If you missed this event, subscribe to our VIP list, to receive our event announcements.

Thinking of a Master Plan: Take the Next Step

I was inspired to write this, as I start on the ground floor of a new journey.

If for any reason you think because it's August you should continue to put off the goals you set in January and wait until 2016. YOU ARE WRONG!!!!!

And here's why.

There's no difference between August 17 and January 1. There's no difference from September 21 and January 1. If there is something you want to do. START NOW.

Create your MASTER PLAN. Any BIG goal you want to accomplish can be achieved by taking the first step, and then another, and another. It won't happen overnight. It won't magically appear on your doorstep or in your bank account.

Just think if you start on August 17 where you will be by January 1. That's five months to get shit done. And guess what?

Even if you don't get it done, you can always start at any time. Any step you take is a step towards progress.

So here's a tip sheet to get shit done.

1. Do Research on Your Idea - Google is your friend and so Amazon, you can see what books exists on your topic and buy them used. Thriftbooks.com offers free shipping on orders over $10.

2. Listen to podcasts and webinars - Know that you are not alone. There are people who like to share their ideas and resources. Whenever you see someone hosting a teleconference sign up to their email list and call-in.

3. Don't tell everyone your plans because it's NOT for everyone to hear. You can't discuss a Master Plan with people who've never had one, never made one, or never accomplished anything on the level you want to be on.
3a. Don't ask advice from people you wouldn't trade places with.
3b. Sometimes it's best to just go to sleep and let the answer come to you.

4. Although you're not alone, you will feel alone and that's okay. Keep going!

5. Take it one day at a time and before you know it you will get there.

We started #100BusinessGirls in 2011 and here we are four years later. There's a lot more out here for women entrepreneurs from when we started. So take the next step towards getting your idea off the ground.

P.S. Your Master Plan can be related to anything, not just starting a business or creating a product, but changing your eating habits, getting over a failed relationship or starting a new one, etc. It's all about taking the next step.

{Recap} Fashion for Brunch: A Chat + Chew with Author Lorenza Brown

Nzinga Basir, Jamillah Johnson, Lorenza Brown, and Sully Ann Guerra

On Sunday, May 31, we hosted a chat + chew for women interested in starting or growing their own fashion business with Lorenza Brown at Pampano (209 E. 49th Street, NYC). Lorenza is the author of "How to Create the Fashion Designs of Your Dreams" and owner of Lorenza Brown Consulting. Lorenza offered great advice on working with manufacturers, sourcing fabrics, and pricing. She stressed the importance of knowing who your ideal customer is. Most people make the mistake of thinking they'll start a business and that everyone is their customer. WRONG. Before you even think of setting up your business, you should know who the person is you're designing for.

If you are looking to start your own or grow your fashion business, please visit www.lorenzabrownconsulting.com for more information about her services. Her book can be purchased on Amazon.
